Nearby Lake Wichel is a popular recreation area in idyllic nature and tranquillity. Not least because of the cliff rising to the Kernwald forest in the background, the lake makes a rewarding photo motif.
The starting point of this cycle route is Sarnen. Numerous sights bear witness to an eventful history. The village is characterised by bourgeoisie, small businesses and services. The lovely old town hall stands in the immediate vicinity of Sarnen's picturesque village square. It has represented Canton Obwalden for almost 600 years.

Along the Sarneraa you reach the Wichelsee nature reserve, where water birds can be observed. From here you can see the small Dunschtigchäppeli chapel, which can accommodate no more than 20 worshippers. It was erected after a major cattle epidemic in 1779. Continue in the direction of Alpnach, past the airfield, which cannot be missed. On hot summer days, the bathing area at Lake Alpnach offers a refreshing dip before the return journey to Sarnen.
