A medium-difficulty MTB tour on which you discover the best sides of the scattered settlement of Giswil and admire wonderful views over the Sarneraa valley on the Grossteilerberg.
The start and finish of the Grossteilerberg Bike is at Giswil railway station, right next to the tourist office. Since there is no actual historic village centre and Giswil consists of a distinct scattered settlement, you will be riding through great scenery after just a few minutes.

After the tour starts off leisurely on the valley floor past handsome Obwalden houses, Stein-Schlad-Strasse takes you up the Grossteilerberg to the Gruonholz. This is followed by a descent on a partly unpaved road through a lovely forest section. These old plantations were planted as flood protection in the catchment area of the Laui. The torrent has flooded the valley floor several times. Its natural basin offers many opportunities to linger, swim and barbecue, but it is also a constant reminder of the potentially dangerous nature of the usually slow-flowing water.

Isolated old houses bear witness to the farms that used to be here. As soon as the forest clears, you are rewarded with wonderful views over the Laui torrent and valley floor. The trail continues in leisurely fashion along the stream to the starting point in Giswil.
