Grundacherhaus Sarnen (cantonal library)

The Grundacherhaus in Sarnen is a residence dating from 1593. Originally built as a simple farmhouse, it was later converted into a grand town house.

Founded in 1895, Obwalden's cantonal library been housed in the Grundacherhaus since 1980. The building is classed as an A-grade cultural asset of national importance.

Its interior retains the character of a noble manor house to this day. The richly stuccoed ballroom serves today as a reading room, while the small garden has been given a baroque layout.
