Other places to fish

As you can imagine, the Sarneraa valley with Lakes Alpnach and Sarnen and the various mountain streams offer myriad possibilities in terms of catching fish.

Licence-free fishing from the shores of Lakes Sarnen and Alpnach is permitted from 1 April to 15 October. Licence-free fishing applies to fishing from the shore using a handheld rod with or without a float. All that can be used is a simple barbless hook with natural bait, but no live or dead fish.

Visitors may obtain holiday fishing licences for flowing bodies of water (including Lake Sewenalp) and daily licences for the lakes (Lakes Alpnach, Sarnen, Wichel) from the tourism office or the licence issuing office of the Sarnen fisheries administration.

Important: Sarnen's tourist office cannot issue licences or refund statistical fees between 15.12. and 15.01. During this period, licences can only be obtained/returned at the Office for Agriculture and the Environment.
