The Walen Trail connects the Brunni area with the Bannalp, while the Benedictine Way links Engelberg monastery with Maria-Rickenbach convent. How about a short version? You start from Ristis (or Brunni), where the Berglodge Restaurant Ristis is located: a real treat here are the alpine pork fillet strips and the homemade cakes. From here, the route leads to the Walenalp with its wealth of views, and then via Brunniswald and Eschlen down to Grafenort. If someone is there to operate it, you can take the little cable car from Brunniswald.
From the upper terminus of the Engelberg-Brunni aerial cableway or from the Brunni chairlift upper terminus on the Walen Trail to the Walenalp (which is actually in Canton Obwalden) with its wealth of views. From here a little forest path leads down to the Brunniswald alp, a wedge of land belonging to Canton Nidwalden. The path continues via Eschlen down to Grafenort ... again in Canton Obwalden!

Children love the thrills of the 660 m long summer toboggan run and Globi's alpine playground right next to the Berglodge Restaurant Ristis.
